Camille Pavlenko

Camille Pavlenko – Co-Writer

Camille (she/her) is an award-winning playwright, actor, and theatre artist. As a writer, her previous work has won and been short-listed for awards from, amongst others, the Playwrights Guild of Canada, Theatre BC, Ottawa Little Theatre, the University of New Hampshire, and the Herman Voaden Prize. Currently, she teaches playwriting for teens through the Student Writers Group at Alberta Theatre Projects, where she was recently the Playwright in Residence, as well as a member of the 2020-2021 playwrights unit.  Other recent writing projects include “The Hitchhiker” (Vertigo Theatre), “Go for Gold, Audrey Pham” (Lunchbox Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects), and “Vasilisa & Baba Yaga” (with composer KP Smith, Alberta Musical Theatre Company). Upcoming is the world premiere of her brand new adaptation of Pinocchio, “real boi” (Calgary Young People’s Theatre, Dec 2022). Ali Deregt

Ali DeRegt – Co-Writer / “Tai”

Ali DeRegt Ali DeRegt is a multidisciplinary theatre artist who focuses on devising, puppetry, clown, and voice over performance. She has recently completed an MFA from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London, where she co-founded HOT TRASH! Theatre, a devised theatre company that focuses on DIY aesthetics, physical storytelling, and general nonsense. Recent collaborations in Mohkinstsis include Verb Theatre, Mudfoot Theatre, Quest Theatre, and The Green Fools.

Greg Wilson

Greg Wilson – Sound Editor / Designer / Engineer / Composer

Greg is an actor, improviser, sound designer, and musician. He is currently sound designer for the upcoming audio play USS Artemis, the Producer of Boathaus Studios podcasts, and the host of Two Bad Neighbors – A Simpsons Podcast. Select theatre credits include A Christmas Carol (Carter-Ryan), Hamlet (Theatre Calgary), No Way Out (Theatre Outre) and The Basement Boys (Theatre BSMT) for which he was nominated for a Calgary Theatre Critics Award for Best Lead Actor.

Kathryn Smith

Kathryn Smith – Director 

Kathryn Smith Kathryn Smith (they/them) is a designer, director, and creator who has worked across western Canada. Kathryn has worked on and created a multitude of projects including award winning clown, puppet, and new creation productions. Their focus lies in collective creation, queer stories, and the ecology of ensemble. They are an Artistic Associate at Vertigo Theatre, and a member of the Mudfoot Theatre Collective. Heather Pattengale – “Dr. Jean Winters” 

Heather’s favourite things in the world are her husband, her daughter and her garden. Theatre is on that list too, and she’s been working professionally for over a decade. Recording ARTEMIS was one of the wackiest and most fun experiences she’s had. Other favourite credits include: Whispers in the Dark (Vertigo Theatre); The Scarlet Letter, A Christmas Carol (2015-18) (Theatre Calgary); The Diary of Adam and Eve, Outside Mullingar, The Last Train to Nibroc, Doubt, It’s a Wonderful Life, Our Town, Queen Milli of Galt, Mary’s Wedding (Rosebud); Talley’s Folly (Chemainus); We Are The Body (Burnt Thicket); Badger (Fire Exit); Hamlet (Shakespeare Company). Elsewhere Heather can be seen in Joe Pickett (Spectrum), Heart’s Creek (Hallmark), and the films Power Chord and Ties that Bind.

Caleigh Crow – “Porter”

Caleigh Crow is a queer Metis writer and performer from Mohkinstsis. Previous playwriting topics include: a talking crow and a grocery clerk, the mass coronal ejection of 1859, the Antifa Supersoldier, the intersection between 12th century Franciscan nuns and Britney Spears, remote viewing, witch revenge, and a landlord musical. She is the co-founder and Artistic Lead of Thumbs Up Good Work Theatre. Caleigh also plays bass guitar in the band Pope Joan. Her work tends towards themes of metaphysics, class struggle, magic, and joy.

Sepidar Yeganeh Farid – “ARTEMIS / NIOBE”

Sepidar was born in Iran and raised in Turkey. She immigrated with her family to Montreal as an adolescent. Graduated with a degree in Psychology and Drama from St. Mary’s University, Sepidar is currently completing her MSc in Counselling Psychology.   Sepidar’s work as an artist involves acting, singing, and writing. Select stage credits include The Green Line (Downstage & Chromatic) inVISIBLE and Uprooted (Handsome Alice Theatre) and The New Canadian Curling Club (Alberta Theatre Projects). She has participated in the development of new plays in workshops and staged readings including Scope and My Hands Were Made for This (Lunchbox Theatre).   Sepidar strongly believes in the link between creativity and wellbeing. As a mental health worker, she has been diligently supporting vulnerable populations and advocating for social justice initiatives. Further, she regards art as a powerful channel to represent the diversity of the voices in our communities and she is a campaigner of the celebration of these stories.

Lara Schmitz – “Harris”

Lara is an actor, budding playwright, and sci-fi nerd, who is currently working on a queer femme sci-fi play (Delayed Deliverance) and web series (Convergence).  Lara’s voice work includes various radio plays with Darkside Drive and Ai Yah! through the Alberta Queer Calendar Project, alongside content for Calgary Municipal Space Station, a VR experience at the Calgary Tower for Beakerhead, and commercial work.  As a theatre performer, Lara recently performed in the Belfry Theatre’s World Premiere of The Ministry of Grace by Tara Beagan and Theatre Calgary’s production of Iceland. Lara’s work outside of theatre centres around harm reduction and sexuality.

Mike Tan – “Currie”

Mike is a Treaty 7-based theatre artist and photographer. He has worked as a co-creator in devised theatre creation ensembles with Downstage, Theatre Junction, and Ghost River Theatre; an acting ensemble member at the Banff Centre Playwrights Lab workshopping new plays from around the world; and as an actor at Vertigo Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, and Theatre Calgary. Mike also works as a documentary photographer for arts and culture organizations, events, and independent artists. He lives with his loves, Di, his son Aiden, and their cat babies, Frankie and Prismo.

Bri Strong – Graphic Design

Bri Strong is grateful to live, work and play as a settler within the ancestral and unceded traditional territory of the Hul’qumi’num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples. Bri is a visual artist and graphic designer. For the past decade, they have been trying to make work that is meaningful to people. Or, at the very least, something they would like to see on a Pog. If you don’t know what a Pog is, DM Bri. They need your help setting up their TikTok account.

Bianca Miranda – Producer

Born and raised in the Philippines, Bianca Miranda is a fat, queer, Filipino performer, playwright, and producer, grateful to be living and working in Moh’kins’tsis, Treaty 7 Territory.  She is the Associate Producer at Downstage, ‘theatre that creates conversation’ and also the Artistic Associate at Handsome Alice, ‘theatre that uplifts women’s perspectives through creative narratives.  STAY TUNED for the world premiere of “The F Word”, a play about being fat and so much more that she is co-writing, developing, and will be performing with her art partner, Keshia Cheesman – coming very soon.  Stay in touch: @TheBiancanator & @TheFWord_Show.

Kyle Hinton – Website Development and Sound Assistance

Kyle Hinton is a father and a multi-disciplined artist who is devoted to sound, puppetry, computer programming and many other kinds of creative acts. He is most enthusiastic about creating worlds, telling stories and exploring philosophy with sound, music, and miniaturized-beings. He is absolutely fascinated by using technology to create art and to support artists. Jacqueline Tran – Marketing

Jacqueline is currently a Communications and Marketing Manager with over six years of combined experience in the industry. Aside from her 9-5, she enjoys practicing creative pursuits by knitting together digital stories through videography, content creation, copywriting, and photography. As a former actor, she has a deep appreciation for the theatre industry and is thrilled to be a part of this remarkable show and its talented cast and production team.

Meredith Johnson – Workshop & Production Stage Manager

Meredith is a Calgary based theatre artist. She stage manages, teaches and generally administers people and things for many different companies including Alberta Theatre Projects, Bad Knaps Theatre, Black Radish Theatre, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Young People’s Theatre, Handsome Alice Theatre, Heritage Park, Lunchbox Theatre, Making Treaty 7, Major Matt Mason Collective, One Yellow Rabbit, Theatre Calgary, The Shakespeare Company, Spontaneous Theatre/Arts Club Theatre, Quest Theatre, Verb Theatre and Vertigo Theatre. This show was a blast and a half to work on and I am sure it’ll be the same over the airwaves!

Jenna Rodgers – Dramaturg

Jenna (she/her) is a mixed-race Director and Dramaturg who gratefully resides on land called Moh’kins’tsis (Calgary), on Treaty 7 Territory. She is the founding Artistic Director of Chromatic Theatre, the Dramaturg for the Playwrights Lab at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, the Board Co-Chair of LMDA, and the Director of Theatre Alberta. She is a graduate of the NTS Artistic Leadership Residency (2020), the Banff Centre’s Cultural Leadership Program (2019), and a member of the artEquity National Facilitator Training cohort (2018). Jenna holds a MA in International Performance Research from the universities of Amsterdam and Tampere.

Mentees

Miranda Martini – Playwriting Mentee

Miranda Martini (she/her) is a musician and writer based in Calgary. Her writing can routinely be found in publications like Alberta Views and The Sprawl. Miranda co-wrote music for the award-winning play “John Ware Reimagined,” a musical about the life and impact of legendary Alberta cowboy John Ware. Her face and music can also be seen and heard in the 2020 NFB documentary John Ware Reclaimed. As a queer woman of colour, Miranda often explores these facets of her identity in her work. Miranda was delighted to be a production mentee on the set of USS ARTEMIS.

Ben Gaudet – Sound Design Mentee

Ben Gaudet is an emerging theatre artist in Calgary. Past credits include A Play About a Dragon (CYPT), Love and Information (CYPT), and He Leaves No Trace (Mind The Gap Collective), as well as backstage work for A More Sparkling Version Of Ourselves (Verb Theatre).  Most recently, he’s done sound design and composition for Much Ado About Nothing (CYPT) and Friends of Mine/The Tuesday Crew (CYPT). He would like to thank the team of USS ARTEMIS for this incredible experience!
